Names of participants: Utkan Oktay, Bahadır Keşan, Gözde Sevinç, Emine Kaya and Ercan Kılınç
Country, City: Türkiye, in cities Çankaya, Maltepe, Muratpaşa and Şahinbey

The aim of this change project was to design and disseminate a guideline for municipalities to help them with the planning and implementing of ISA Parks. The project also aimed to help with achieving a mentality change by involving these municipalities in participatory processes while preparing the guidelines. Some examples of activities were background research based on scanning best practices and similar guidelines on ISA Parks, a workshop among participating municipalities and a workshop with key stakeholders.

The participants were motivated and willing to implement the change project in their municipalities. However, the daily workload, lack of time, and the rapidly changing agenda in municipalities was a big challenge for all participants, leading to a decrease of overall performance.

HIT Sustainability Lab

Names of participants: Leonard Muyambo, Ray Chipendo, Trust Mutekwa and Massy Warakula
Country, City: Zimbabwe, Harare

This change project focused on the development of an innovative platform in partnership with a local academic institution, Harare Institute of Technology (HIT). As a result of this collaboration, the “HIT Sustainability Lab” was launched on 8 November 2019 during the “Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Cities Forum”. In addition, a panel on “Development of Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Cities – How Cities can Leverage Public Private Partnership?” was organized. This multi-sectorial panel not only provided the audience with an in-deep reflection on the role of local authorities in building cities that are inclusive, sustainable and climate resilient, but also helped other panelists in framing the conceptual issues at stake.
